Prof. Dr. Ioana Agache is a distinguished full professor of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania, and served as the Past President of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) from 2017 to 2019. Currently, she holds the position of Chair of the EAACI Research and Outreach Committee, further solidifying her role as a leading figure in the field.
Her research spans several crucial areas of asthma, allergy, and clinical immunology. She has focused on understanding asthma phenotypes and endotypes, identifying biomarkers, immune modulation, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in allergy and asthma management. Additionally, she has explored integrated management strategies for allergic diseases with a particular emphasis on exposomics and the One Health approach, which highlights the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health.
Dr. Agache has made significant contributions to guideline development in the field, chairing the EAACI Guidelines on the use of biologics in asthma and allergic diseases, as well as the EAACI Guidelines on Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT) for allergic asthma. She is currently the Chair of the EAACI Guidelines on Environmental Science in Allergy and Asthma, and the EAACI Guidelines on Allergic Asthma.
Her editorial roles include serving as Editor for the Global Atlas of Asthma (2013 and 2020), Global Atlas of Allergy (2014), Global Atlas of Allergic Rhinitis and Chronic Rhinosinusitis (2015), and Implementing Precision Medicine in Best Practices of Chronic Airway Diseases (2018). Furthermore, she is the Deputy Editor of Allergy and Associate Editor of Clinical and Translational Allergy. Through these roles, Dr. Agache continues to influence global research and clinical practices in the field of allergy and clinical immunology.
Prof. Dr. Ioana Agache este un renumit profesor universitar în domeniul Alergologiei și Imunologiei Clinice la Universitatea Transilvania din Brașov, România, și a fost Președinte al Academiei Europene de Alergologie și Imunologie Clinică (EAACI) în perioada 2017-2019. În prezent, ocupă funcția de Președinte al Comitetului de Cercetare și Promovare al EAACI, consolidându-și astfel rolul de lider în domeniu.
Cercetările sale acoperă mai multe ramuri esențiale ale astmului, alergiilor și imunologiei clinice. Aceasta s-a concentrat pe înțelegerea fenotipurilor și endotipurilor astmatice, identificarea biomarkerilor, modularea imunității și aplicarea inteligenței artificiale și învățării automate în managementul alergiilor și astmului. De asemenea, a explorat strategii integrate de gestionare a bolilor alergice, punând accent pe expozomi și abordarea One Health, care subliniază interconexiunile dintre sănătatea umană, animală și mediul înconjurător.
Prof. Dr. Agache a avut contribuții semnificative în dezvoltarea ghidurilor în domeniu, fiind președinte al Ghidurilor EAACI cu privire la utilizarea biologicelor în astm și bolile alergice, precum și a Ghidurilor EAACI privind Imunoterapia cu Alergen (AIT) pentru astmul alergic. În prezent, este Președinte al Ghidurilor EAACI privind Științele Mediului în Alergologie și Astm și al Ghidurilor EAACI privind Astmul Alergic.
